Year of the Broke Butt...

So, Bendover Mountain cleaned up at the Golden Globe's last night, which is usually a good indication which way the The Oscars will go...

Supa would like to know: Are you planning to see this movie? Why or why not? If you did see it, what compelled you, and what did you think? Anyone? Anyone?

Supa's a hard core movie fanatic, and is usually a sucka for an untraditional love story..I mean, kudos to Hollywood and the screenwriters and actors for creating a never-been-told-before authentic tale, but I really could care less about this flic! Can anyone help convince me otherwise? Do you think my friendly neighborhood bootlegger can hit me off with a copy?

I'd rather see this: Transamerica

Synopsis: A pre-operative male-to-female transexual takes an unexpected journey when she learns that she fathered a son, now a teenage runaway hustling on the streets of New York.

I don't want to see it. I recently found out that a guy I was into is on the DL and actively seeking a front of a wife. Needless to say, I'm not happy on gay men love stories, right now.

The DL stuff is an all-too common (and increasingly problematic) issue for black women in NYC right now. I'll pass.

whaaaaatt Cocoa Girl?! How did you find THIS out?? Were there any indications? (was he suspect)

Shooot, ya know it's hard out here for a SISTA! (forget a pimp)

I plan on seeing both - they look like my kind of movie.

Sorry to hear that Cocoa girl. I wish people would just be who they are and not hurt others in the process of being someone they're not!

LMAO @ Bendover Mountain and “friendly neighborhood bootlegger”…Girl you are hilarious!

I want to see Bendover Mountain mainly because it’s so different. Plus I wanna know what all of the fuss is about. There has been so much talk about it. It is the first movie of it’s kind (about a gay couple) to do well in the awards and the box office isn’t it? I’m glad that it won last nite, but I’m very surprised to. The people that vote in those awards shows are usually so uptight. I didn’t think they’d be opened to this type of movie even though I heard that it was good.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Transamerica either!

SS - I just learned about the history. Dude's "DL" status is actually known among certain circles. Other than that, no signs.

Thanks for the sympathy, Mwabi, but, really, it wasn't a biggie. I just didn't like the fact that dude is actively seeking a wife cuz he wants the whole "image." In that case, he should find a woman who is down for the cause and get to it. But the deception ain't cool. Apparently, his engagement fell apart b/c of this same issue.

I might actually get around to seeing the movie, especially since it's supposed to be so good. I have to give it to the actors for making it...bold move (but not maybe?)

i saw it. i was motivated to see it by the trailer, the distate by some people not to see it, and the reviews.

it was sad. the sex scenes are what the are. the acting and cinematography are great. heath ledger is a front runner for best actor at the Oscars. I saw Capote that Phillip Seymour Hoffman won for best actor at the globes. phillip did an outstanding job but I was moved more by heath ledgers performance.

check it out. it make you gay.

i want to see transamerica too but it isn't showing around here yet.

I can't NOT see if, you know what I mean. I have to see what it's all about. (you are a HAM for calling it Bendover Mountain).

And Transamerica - Yes, I LOVE Felicity Huffman (BEFORE she was on Desparate Housewives), as well as her husband, who I love even more, William H. Macy.

Saw it the weekend it opened (before Christmas).
Wasn't as good as the hype.
It was a beautiful movie to look at (there are places like that in the US?)
I needed more back-story. Just because two people are in the same location doesn't mean they "connect"
Heath L wasn't that great. Jake was better. And the women were not fully realized characters.

I'm not trying to see Brokeback Mountain either. I would love to see Transamerica too.
