This Week's Award...

Okay. Now this dude, I mean, bless his heart.

For all his good intentions, he seems to suffer from a severe case of Mouth/Ass Syndrome. This is when the words that come out of your mouth, make you look like an ass. Mouth/Ass Syndrome can be very damaging, especially when you engage in M.A.S. in public places. Admittedly I have been known to suffer from mouth/ass syndrome on occasion. But in my own defense, I'm just some writer chick, not a public political figure in charge of a historically black city that has been ravaged by one of the worst natural disasters in U.S. History and whom people are looking at under a microscope to assess my competence and leadership skills. Nor did I(thank God) make some questionable comments about black folks being punished by God during a really speech on (of all days) Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday.

So, I'm kinda torn on this one, but ultimately....Ray Nagin *sigh*

Take him away!
(and somebody talk to this man, please, for the love of God..)

Here's my girl JA's response to the Nagin fallout.

I mean, as a Christian, I am happy bro even believes in a God. However, why do these crazies have to keep making religion look like such a mockery of sorts. He isn't God, so how on earth is he goign to make such a bold statement?!?!

Just bringing down the religion, bringing it down. And to think, Bush and his aliens are already doing enough damage to my boy JC's name.

True enuff, CG!

Yet, just on the talking tip - I mean - there's the *shit u say* when you're comfortably in the appropriate arena, then there's *shit u shouldn't say* when in front of the media...

He even mentioned as much, afterward..

But if he's not careful, he be lumped into the "Bush and his aliens" category! And that other dude! Pat Robinson, is that him?

OMG, I'm so glad somebody said what I was thinking!! Girl I agree with you 1,000 (yep one thousand) %.

Now you know it's a shame when you're black but feel ashamed of another black leader's comments that are [in a weird kinda way] supposed to be in defense of Black America. He was contradicting himself left and right and proved to be more racist than the King of KKK.

I was floored!!

Okay *peeples* I on the other hand am going to have to play devil's advocate. If the government could play God, as rumors have it they did in choosing to open the flood gates in 9th Ward as opposed to The Garden District, if one must choose on which population to wipe out, why can't C.Ray voice his opinion and share his messages from above.

Face it, Brah is under a lot of pressure and deemed it necessary to share what he thought was a prolific and astounding revelation. I say do ya damn thang. After all, everyone else has made an ass of themself during this tragedy, why can't he have his chance?

Seriously, I have more to follow on this topic in a different forum, but for now, what the hell? He had the stage and the mike, so...he had the power!

What is wrong with yo boy?

Girl, I was sitting in the airport yesterday with my BACK to the TV. When I first heard his comments, I just sat there without turning around because I didn't know who was talking and almost didn't want to know.

But of course, curiosity got the best of me. When I saw it was Mr. New Orleans, I was like, what the heasy, Don't you have anything better to do, like WORK TO HELP THE CITY GET BACK SOME OF IT'S ROOTS, (no pun intended). Works on getting the levees strengthened, are you kidding me.

What a media circus this is going to be. He needs to go sit down somewhere.

Thanks JA! I was waiting for you to chime in, I know 'Nawlins is your city. :)

All I have to say - use your power wisely. I just don't think it was the correct forum. Now these white folks think he's a wack job.

Heaven FORBID any of us say what we're REALLY thinking/feeling about "certain things" when say, in the workplace. Clutch the pearls! Some of the ish I THINK ABOUT SAYING would have me not only fired, but probably ARRESTED, INDICTED, CHARGED, TRIED, and SENTENCED! I know WHERE I can speak freely about certain topics, namean?

Ray strikes me as a very passionate and for the most part, decent and concerned brotha. Unfortunately, that's makes him a prime candidate for mouth/ass affliction. You can't just *spout* everything that comes to your mind, even if you feel it's truth! Must do a *self-check* as a black politician...

I think that Nagin is suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and that he can't really take time for the nervous break down he deserves.

I actually really feel for the man. I can't imagine how I would feel as an elected leader watching my people die in N.O.

I got root in Louisiana, went to school in Louisiana and know all too well of the crooked cops and disparity.

Clearly he doesn't have an advisor writing his speeches, which is probably once again rooted in lack of resources, but he is forced to speak for all of those who lost their lives and voices..

I have hope for the man, if he doesn't end up stark raving mad, he might pull it together!

@ P - I can just imagine you sitting there with the "frozen look" on your face! LOL, but *sigh*

thanks for stoppin' by, I heard about you via the blogvine via Tam's page. :)

Miss Ahmad - True. You know..I didn't take into account (when hearing his wack comment) this possibly being an after-effect of the horror this man must have seen/been though on account of Katrina. PSTD might be a real factor here. Hopefully after this incident he can have a speech writer in place, to keep the "freestyling" to a minimum.

Thanks for offering a diff. perspective!

Now I'm a-tell it like it is from an inside government perspective you have to be careful not to sell out to inside political pressures. I fight fools all the time trying to change me into a robot, and say it's for the good of the country or the mission. No fool that's your personal ambition you're trying to push over on me. Like I always say (Copyrighted) If it's not on paper--it's vapor! But if it goes against my grain find somebody else because I will oppose it. Foot to mouth shoo I have a hard time keeping my foot out of folks ass! The craziest thing of all it's the people you expect to understand where you're coming from that propose B.S. as a solution. I don't even want to hear what he had to say--I'm all ready pissed off--thanks Supa...why you try to get me worked up?

It won't take long for him to be taken away. The voters will relieve him of his duties.

Yeah, when I heard that the first thing that popped into my head was sadness that the suffering has REALLY gotten to him if it's compelling him to say things like that.

I'm not mad at Nagin. I mean, we...at least I understood what he was saying... Meanwhile, Hilary Clinton said the "Bush administration was "being run like a Plantation."
And she said this in front of a gang of Black folks, in Harlem, in a church on Martin Luther King Day?
And we trippin on Nagin. He didn't insult me.

Supa said...

@ Don't Push Me - I heard about ya girl Hilary, and I'ma blast her too. Talk about playin' the mufuhckn' race card. That was just wack.

Nagin, well, *sigh*, all things considered, I'm more inclined to give him a pass.
