Thursday's Tidbits...

Anyone watch the premiere of Black.White. of FX Network last night? Anyone? (Saw your name in the credits, Ms. Ahmad!) Check out Emerging Phoenix's recap.

Going to watch Lil' Kim's Countdown to Lockdown on BET?

Supa is happy to report that as of sometime last week, her machine became full and is no longer accepting new messages: (lmao)

Finally: leaving you with a quote from one of Supa's favorite flics:

"Life is filled with goodbye's Eve. A million goodbyes..and it hurts every time. Sometimes I feel like I've lost so much, I have to find new things to lose...All I know is, there must be some divine point to it all...it's just over my head.. And when we die, it'll all become clear and we'll say: So that was the damn point...and sometimes, I think there's no point at all, and that's the point...All I know is, most people's lives are a great disappointment to them...and no one leaves this earth without feeling terrible pain..and if there is no divine explanation at the end of it all..well..that's just sad..."

Hey Cocoa! I caught it. Will reserve final critique until the episodes are complete (it's a six part series, I believe) but what I saw was interesting. From the make-up, to the dialogue.

The white dude (who is made up as a brotha) is on the "black men just look for racism" kick. For now.

The young white chick really LOOKS like a young sista, and she's in a spoken word poetry performance group. She's nervous but she seems open, respectful, and receptive re: her experience with black folks.

More to come... :)

I misseded-it. I was wanting to peep. I guess I will catch up later.
It just reminds me of that Saturday Night Live skit with Eddie Murphy. That ish was fuh-nee!

Word, DPM! I was thinking about the Eddie Murhpy skit while watching it, too.

You know I watched Eve's Bayou twice and I didn't get that quote like I did when I read it here. How unfortunately true.

Sidebar:

Did you know that Eve's Bayou was on over 75% of Critics top ten movies of that year

AND

Didn't get nominated for any types of Awards?

That just shows to go you. And I don't think it was gender based more than I do race based. Roger Ebert actually called it the best movie of the year for that year (He's also got jungle fever) but THAT'S BESIDES THE POINT :p

I know it doesn't matter what others feel about our bodies of work, but let that have been another group of individuals that had made it. . .It would have been the toast of Hollywood.

Supa: I'm out. Holla

SPEAK on it, P! Eve's Bayou is phenomenal, easily a classic. So sorely underrated..

But WE know what beautiful film making is - so fuck whoever else 'aint knowin'!

WORD! and that shit has to be one of the most underrated black films of all time...every other motherfucker was watching soul food.

it did get nominated for NAACP image awards, and jurnee (eve) got robbed for best young actor when brandon hammond (soul food) got it. that was some bullshit..i wanted her to win...she was so good.

if more motherfuckers was watching that shit....they wouldnt have thought the megan good just came out of the woodwork when "21 questions" came out. MFs was acting like they never saw her ass before. BONG. I'm still mad to this day.

Supa said...

lmao @ doc: "no brokeback"

Meagan Goode & Jurnee Smollet (sp?) did their thizzle in this movie. Basically the entire cast was awesome.

Genesis said...

oh yeah...and megan good career...as far as the quality of her acting and her roles have deteriorated since EB. real talk.

I saw Eve's Bayou last month, my first time in a few years. It was so much I missed the first two or three times I watched. Truly a classic. I have to get the DVD for my collection.

FYI - Turned to Lil' Kim's special. I switched after 10 minutes, couldn't do it.
