Back In the Matrix...

Whass gwaan, blogger fam?? Supa's playing a serious game of catch-up back on the work front, but don't worry, not gonna let 'em work me too hard. I mean 'cause, who do they think I am, supa sister or something? heh heh heh

Meanwhile.....just for the record....
I was morti-fucking-fied. *SIGH*
Am I alone? Anyone? Anyone? And an even better question: What do we as socially/culturally conscious, self-loving black folk do about it?

Here's a very interesting take: (an op/ed by Mark Skillz): It's Hard out Here for Real Hip-Hop

And what's all this I hear about KRS-1 getting straight ignant? (good lookin' out Cinq) Click here for an audio excerpt of the Stanford forum http://media.odeo.com/4/6/0/KRSarguing.mp3

Blessings and thanks to pioneer in the arts, Gordon Parks

Morti-fucking-fied! You kill me... I'm with you on the song, tho. Like Marvin said: "Makes me wanna holla"...

Oh sweetie. You are so not alone! I participated in a verbal class war of sorts on another site (read: 140+ comments).

You are SO not alone. Welcome back!

I didn't wanna be the only muthafucka on here saying that shit. But as a bona fide lover of real, progressive hip hop, this is a sad way to make history.

I'm not mad at 3-6. Instead I'm going to put out my own song "Don't the Player, Hate the Game Homey!"

On some real shit, RIP Gordon Parks.

Supa I think this is where me and hip hop have to officially break up. I really can't have any love for anyone who decided to name themselves after the devil...
666 Mafia being their orginal name...and like i've always said the biggest trick the devil ever pulled was fooling people into thinking he didn't exist!

Miz JJ said...

3 6 mafia...man i was happy for them, but i was sad for black people. i mean *we* know that we are more than that, but this is a show that is broadcast to a billion people who don't know we are more than just pimps and hoes. it was disapointing.

Supa said...

I hear you, Miss A!

But that's JUST the thing, 36 Mafia does not, in anyway, represent the entire entity of hip-hop - they are just a sad, stereotypical, backward ass IMAGE that happened to be presented to the world at large, via them Academy Awards.

I consider myself a lifelong lover of hip-hop, and I must admit, as a black woman, as a mother, as a HUMAN - at times it's been a very conflicted task...but something in my soul just won't give up. Perhaps because it's such a beautiful, courageous art form that WE created..It's poetry. It's fight music. It's LOVE music. It's my life soundtrack...

And you know, I 'aint one of those hard-core purists..I have a definite preference, but I 'aint hatin' on others if they don't like what I like...I'd never say there can only be ONE hip-hop sound/culture - if you're down w/crunk, or commercialized crap a la Fiddy, or more conscious a la Talib, Dead Prez, Common, Mos, Dialated Peoples, Jurassic Five, De La, (etc) that's all cool- but FOR GOD'S SAKE can we get a BALANCE, a FAIR REPRESENTATION in the media, on the radio, I mean I really don't know WHO to be mad at - "them" or "us".. (correction: I'm mad at US)

When I saw that crap careen across my tv screen, I wanted to go run out in the street and yell:

The pimpin' phenomenon must stop!

The blinging must stop!

The video ho'ing and exploitation of OURSELVES (as sistas)in the hip-hop media MUST STOP!!

The wack ass ways black love/relationships are depicted in lyrics and movies must stop!!

The excessive consumerism, the irresponsible lifestyles which are advocated, the get rich or die trying, the "yeah I'm from the ghetto & don't give a fuck 'cause I'm keeping it real" stunted ass mentality GOTS TO GO!!

sorry but this is gonna turn into a rant! *whew*

Hey Super Sis!

I ain’t even mad at Triple Six! You know me, I like that ghetto type stuff, LOL. It just something about living in Florida; we like all that dirty south style rap music.

I guess I’m the only one here that doesn’t feel that it is a disgrace to the race. I just don’t agree with that. How can what one small group of people do, disgrace an entire race of people? I’m not claiming it. Then on top of that, it’s not like they are being glorified for raping and killing someone. They are being honored for making music that a lot of people happen to like.

What another person does not define (even if it’s good) or disgrace me. They are responsible for themselves and I’m responsible for me. But that’s just me. I’m very liberal when it comes to most things.

I can understand what some people are saying about the type of music they sing and about the song they sung on the award show, but it honestly doesn’t bother me. It just doesn’t. Its just music to me and nothing more. On this one, I am the unique in the crowd.

RIP Mr. Parks!

I guess I'll contribute my 2cents . . . I don't give much credence to white-controlled awards shows anyway. Yes, I did not like 3 Six Mafia's performance b/c I think that they're mediocre rappers. Yet, I'm not surprised or disgusted that they won an Oscar. From the early days of Hattie McDaniel, the Academy Awards have nearly always honored black men for portraying angry, hyper-sexual, asexual, stereotypically racialized characters. Three Six Mafia continues the tradition.

I could give a flying fig what or who wins the damn Oscar awards. The Oscars mean nothing to me. I didn't even watch it until my best friend told me to turn and look at the now "infamous" rap performance.

Until we can strategically control our images and herald our talented artists then I have no desire white folks for doing what they do best - awarding black folks for playing hos, pimps, angry black men, asexual mammies, and Jesus-like characters.

Just my 2 cents. Now on to KRS-One . . . the brotha is becoming so egotistical and narcissistic that his rants simply make me pine for the days when he and his ideas were relevant. Threatening to fight another brother in front of the lily-white and yellow bastion of Stanford is so juvenile and irresponsible that I'm at a loss for words.

You are not alone. When are we going to stop playing the game?!?!? As long as we dance around and make a mockery out of ourselves, is when they want to 'recognize us'. But for what?!?!? Playing up to the stereotype that we want a nice car only to pull it up to an apartment in the projects. I just don't think that 36mafia gets it...they weren't laughing and smiling with them, they were laughing AT them. *smh* I guess your 'black card' is on revoke along with mine *snicker*

3 6 Mafia scares me in more ways than one.

I had a chance to see a Gordon Parks exhibit when it came to my town, I was blown away. He was defininitely one of my "crushes" as you like to say Supa. I did a little post on him too. An awesome man that lived a long and productive life.

Oh, hold up! Y'all don't know the half! The day Cocoa was checkin' folks in crunktastical blog about 3-Clown Mafia, I happened to go to Cocoa's blog that same day and referenced how nicely she'd "handled" one particular chick in the thread, and the chick made her way to Cocoa's blog and replied to ME, in Cocoa's BLOG!!, talking about I was talking about her behind her back!! OMG I laughed so hard I damn near knocked my laptop off my bed. hehehehe

Oh, but wait, THEN she goes to my blog and posts "Just lurkin. Came over here from Cocoa's blog." WTF!? Am I 'sposed to be scared cuz she found me or something!!? I let her make it on both counts, but if she comes up in my sista's blog and tries to pop off at me again, I'm tryna tell y'all it ain't gon' be nothin' nice.

Oh, and co-sign. 3-Clown Mafia is a joke and hip-hop has descended to such a low that I can barely find genuine hip-hop CDs to buy anymore cuz they're damn near extinct.

"morti-fucking-fied" is EXACTLY the way I felt. I was at the computer, heard that song on what I THOUGHT was the channel the Oscars was on, got up, up-chucked (I wish I had done it for real for effect), and sat back down. I was thinking "bet not one person at work ask me about this 'ish'"
