Playahata.com: Right now the dominate images in the mainstream corporate media concerning Black males is violence, buffoonery, womanizing, lazy, clownish, and overall negativity but you project sophistication, pride, and intelligence, so Black people have championed your cause all across the country as if you freed the slaves ( laughing ). Are you at all surprised at your positive reception and what do you make of it?

Pinkett: I am extremely proud of the image I project as a Black man. I realize that I do not just represent myself, I represent my family, my community, my people, my ancestors, and scores of Black men and women who opened doors just to make opportunities available to my generation. I see my accomplishments as continuing in our tradition and legacy of excellence. In that regard, I am not surprised by the positive reception from the black community because my success is a reflection of our community. I am honored by the well wishes I have received but also recognize my responsibility to continue being a role model, inspire others and give back.
